Roots of a Sovereign Nation: Food Summit

August 28 - August 30

The Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council (RMTLC) has joined forces with the Native American Development Corporation (NADC) and Blackfeet Agriculture Resource Management Plan (ARMP) to host a Food Summit on August 28-30, 2018 in Billings. “Roots of a Sovereign Nation” will discuss traditional foods, historical trauma, economic development, and health literacy, related to our food system. Two major themes for the summit are “Decolonizing Our Diets” and “Making the System Work For You.” We want this to be an opportunity to come together to discuss culturally appropriate food options, water rights/hunting rights/land access, farmers’ markets, and the relationship between tribal, local, state, and federal governments in regards to regulations on food production.
