Harm Reduction for the Clinical Setting
January 1, 1970 @ 12:00 am
Description
Historically, approaches to substance use treatment have been binary. Someone uses or they do not. While these approaches can be effective for some, for others they feel punitive or unrealistic. A harm reduction approach views substance use as being on a continuum and seeks to meet people where they are at. Harm reduction respects individual choice and operates with the mission of keeping people alive while encouraging positive change in their lives. This webinar will provide ideas and insights so treatment providers can incorporate harm reduction techniques and principles into their work with clients. Attendees will hear inspirational stories and will discover tangible techniques to support those with a substance use disorder to live safer and more empowered lives.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to describe the continuum of use and how it may benefit clients.
- Participants will be able to list substance specific harm reduction strategies.
- Participants will be able to apply harm reduction techniques to the clinical setting.
